Sony var ellers forløber for både DVD-udgivelser og blu-ray, og begge medier var bl.a. skyld i den massive succes, Sony har oplevet med sine konsoller - specielt med PS2, der i starten var den absolut bedste og mest tilgængelig DVD-afspiller på markedet.
